Article VII-Officers

Section A: The officers of the chapter shall be as follows:  President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, Sentinel, Student Advisor, Chaplain, Parliamentarian, Historian. The advisors shall be teachers of agricultural education in the school where the chapter is located. Officers shall perform the usual duties of their respective offices.

Section B: Officers will be elected by April 12th. Applicants must be carrying a cumulative to 2.5 GPA at the time of the election.

Section C: A Screening Committee consisting of no less than three people shall handle the duties of selecting officer candidates for the Oak Hill FFA. This committee can consist of retiring senior officers, advisors, administrators, teachers, as well as individuals from area businesses and the community. No parents of current members shall be included.

Section D: 1. The steps of the officer selection process shall be chosen from the following:

      1. Application, Biography, and Complete Record Book                0-5

      2. Interview                                                       0-35

      3. FFA Knowledge                                                   0-5

      4. Use of Telephone                                                0-15

      5. Attendance at Meetings, FFA Activities                          0-40

              (Will Come From Your AET Journals & Bennett's Records)

            2. Following the compiling of scores and ranking of candidates, members of the screening committee shall place the two highest persons requesting President, to be announced and voted upon by the members by secret ballot in class on April  11th and 12th Tentatively . The installation of officers will be at the banquet. After election of the President, the additional offices shall be chosen as follows:

      1.              President: Will be the candidate who combines the highest score from their officer selection process and the votes.  A total score will be combined and the highest score candidate between the top two will be announced president.

      2.                Vice President: Will be the candidate who combines the second highest score from their officer selection process and the votes.  A total score will be combined and the second highest score candidate between the top two will be announced vice president.  

      3.              Secretary: The candidate of the remaining with the highest points and preferring Secretary will be appointed for that office.

                     Treasurer: The candidate of the remaining with the highest points and preferring Treasurer will be appointed for that office.

                     Reporter: The candidate of the remaining with the highest points and preferring Reporter will be appointed for that office.

                     Sentinel: The candidate of the remaining with the highest points and/or preferring Sentinel will be appointed for that office.

                     Student Advisor: The candidate of the remaining with the highest points and/or preferring Student Advisor will be appointed for that office.

                     Chaplain: The candidate of the remaining with the highest points and/or preferring Chaplain will be appointed for that office.

                     Parliamentarian: The candidate of the remaining with the highest points and/or preferring Parliamentarian will be appointed for that office.

                     Historian: The candidate remaining with the highest points and/or preferring Historian will be appointed for that office.

                     Should an officer candidate not accept his/her office, he/she will be placed at the end of all the candidates' rankings and the next ranked person will move up, and so on.

                     Assistant Officers There shall be six utility assistant officers to aid the officers in the direction of the chapter. These positions will be as follows: Assistant President, Assistant Vice President, Assistant Secretary/Chaplain, Assistant Treasurer/Parliamentarian, Assistant Reporter/Historian, and Assistant Sentinel/Student Advisor.   The duties the assistant officers perform shall not be restricted to those their title implies.

        Section F: In the event that an officer is sent to ISS then that student is put on a probation for 1 month.  If the officer gets in trouble again during their probation period then that officer will be relieved of their duties.  Officers will be given two strikes, if the third strike occurs that officer is relieved of their duties. 

      4. Officers are expected to follow these guidelines, and if caught doing these things on or at a school function then proper discipline will be taken. 

        1. Absence from more than one regular or executive meeting without prior approval by advisor and/or failure to perform duties of office.

        2. Falling below a 2.5 GPA.

        3. Assault, assault and battery, arson or attempted arson.

        4. Use, possession, concealment, transmitting, buying, and/or selling alcoholic beverages, narcotic drugs or other controlled substance, or tobacco.

        5. Disruption of school or FFA activity.

        6. Possessing, using transmitting, concealing, or threatening to use weapons.

        7. Violation of terms of suspension.

        8. Damage, destruction, defacement of school or private property.

        9. Use of profane, indecent, or obscene language.

        10. Insubordination and/or disobedience in refusing to comply with directions of school personnel.

        11. Truancy, theft, extortion, fighting, the act of falsely reporting incidents to school personnel.

        12. Harassment, hazing, and/or intimidation.

        13. Pornographic publications/pictures in lockers or in possession, or on the internet.

        14. Commission of an immoral act including but not limited to any sexual act.

        15. Misuse of school property, striking of matches and/or lighters on school grounds/functions.

        16. A student shall not operate a motor vehicle in such a way as could cause physical injury to them or other persons on school grounds and school functions.

        17. Those acts or violations listed in the permanent exclusion portion of the Board policy on student disciplinary procedures.

        18. Any other form of behavior which is detrimental to a proper school and/or school activity atmosphere as prescribed by the administration and as outlined in the student/parent handbook.

           

           

          Section G: In the event that an officer position is vacated the position will be filled with the next ranking officer candidate produced from the officer screening scores.  Executive Committee holds the right to appoint any member to an empty office as they see fit.

         

        General Duties of all officers:

        1. A commitment to a genuine desire to be part of a leadership team.

        2. A willingness to accept responsibility.

        3. A sincere desire to work with all chapter members in meeting their leadership, personal and chapter goals.

        4. A commitment to lead by example.

        5. A knowledge and understanding of the chapter, state and national FFA constitution and bylaws.

        6. A working knowledge of parliamentary procedure.

        7. An ability to memorize their parts in the official ceremonies.

        8. Work closely with the president and advisor to assess progress toward meeting chapter goals.

        9. a monthly typed officer report reported at the monthly meetings and turned into the secretary by each officer. Secretary, Reporter, Treasurer


When applications are turned in, you should also turn in a printed copy of your AET Complete Record Book and an Officer Biography. 

Your record book should be complete with SAE's completely filled out and all events you have attended need to be in your journal.  This is where we will confirm your Attendance score of the officer selection process (40 % of Score).  If you do not understand how to do this please see an older officer or Mr. Bennett.
